Per the Jonesboro Sun, sources have confirmed that plans are in the works for a bowl game at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. It would be the 5th Sun Belt bowl tie-in, and feature an opponent from the American Athletic Conference. Hopes are that it would be accredited for a bowl game this December, following the upcoming 2015 season. It seems more probable that the inaugural Rice Bowl, as it will likely be named, would be played following the 2016 season.
Sun Belt Bowl Tie-Ins:
New Orleans Bowl – New Orleans, Louisiana
GoDaddy Bowl – Mobile, Alabama
Camellia Bowl – Montgomery, Alabama
Cure Bowl – Orlando, Florida (2015)
Per @TheSunJonesboro: Sun Belt Bowl game coming to Little Rock. Sources say: Rice Bowl = SBC vs American @ WMS – maybe 2015, probably 2016

It is interesting to note that the AAC schools such as SMU, Memphis, and Houston are often mentioned as athletic peer institutions by Arkansas State Athletic Director Terry Mohajir. Those are the programs he wants to compete with from a facilities standpoint. The American is also the conference he’s probably like Arkansas State to compete in, if the truth were told.
I can hear the moaning about never getting to travel anywhere fun, and having to play a bowl game in Little Rock 4 years in a row already . . .
