John Brady was interviewed this week on 95.3 The Ticket’s afternoon show, The Drive, and he discussed his new team and its prospects for the upcoming season. Click here to listen to the full interview.
On Sophomore Anthony Livingston:
He’s gonna wind up, in my opinion, being our best player, particularly inside player, so he’s right at, he’s 6-8 and half and really good around the basket, and can move out and score a little bit.
On Freshman Connor Kern:
Well Connor, he’s got some physicalness, he’s not your typical little skinny freshman that hasn’t put a lot of time in the weight room and doesn’t understand the game is physical to a degree, so he’s ahead in that regard. He can really shoot the ball. He’s left handed. We’re excited about him. He’s been here all Summer. He’s passed nine hours; made A’s in every course. He’s been really good. He’s adapted really well. I think he’s going to have an opportunity to play some this year as a freshman.
On the team:
Our talent level is good. I don’t believe it has dropped a whole lot, or any at all. In fact, collectively I think we may be a little bit better.
Scheduling is the most difficult thing for a school like us as it relates to the basketball part. You know, and Rich Zvosec and I both schedule. Terry’s right-hand guy helps schedule basketball. And he’ll tell you how difficult it is to, you know, play a home and home with somebody that is eye catching or name catching. We call everybody. You have no idea the time we spend in that. It’s just difficult to do.
On upcoming Sun Belt preseason polls:
Some of the coaches that know what they’re doing will know, because they know two or three of the players that we signed. And a couple of them know who we had sitting out, and Sean Gardner and PJ Hardwick and those guys are going to be good players for us. So I think the guys who know, Bob Marlin told me that Anthony Livingston at San Jacinto could start at lot of people in conference USA, and he’s coming here to play for us. So he knows. But we do have a lot of new players. But, in my take on it, Georgia State is going to be good because of their guard play. Lafayette is going to be good. Shaun Long will be a 2nd round draft pick in NBA. The Hunter kid, the coaches son at Georgia State, will play in the NBA. Ryan Harrow at Georgia State will have a chance to play in the NBA. But then after that, I think we are right there with those teams. From a talent standpoint, and what I know about what I’ve seen – our team will play with those. So I think we’re still one of the top two or three teams in the league, in spite of having to sign a number of players – and did sign a number of good players – but there’s several really good players in that group. So I think from a talent level standpoint we’re as good or better than we were a year ago.
