Walt Bell is interviewed following the Saturday scrimmage.
We play tomorrow, he’s the starting quarterback.
On battle for backup QB:
I think there’s really good competition at the number two spot right now. I think James Tabary made a big move today.
On new guys contributing this year:
Brandon Byner may be the best of all freshmen we have. He could really kind of be a, he could play running back, he could go play wide out, he can do a bunch of stuff.
Blake Mack will block you, Blake Mack is great at the catch point. He’s really strong through the catch point. He does some certain things well, but he’s still, he’s got a lot of 17, 18 year old in him right now, you know. But we’ll continue to coach him hard. And I think he’ll be a guy who’ll definitely contribute this season. At what level I’m not sure. That’s kind of up to him. He wants to start being a real tough guy mentally, get lined up, executing and really locking in. The sky’s the limit for that kid.
On the freshman offensive linemen, Daniel Keith and Christian Beard:
Probably, unfortunately those two young linemen will probably have to play.
