Charleston Girley is in a heated position battle with Frankie Jackson to be the starting nickelback safety for the Red Wolves defense this fall. Recently, head coach Blake Anderson awarded the walk-on from Pine Bluff Dollarway a scholarship. Anderson talked about Girley about about a minute into this interview:
I stood him up in front of the entire team yesterday and let everybody know there was a question, he came in as a walk-on, there was a question about him being able to earn a scholarship, and that he earned it. And he’s earned it by being one of the hardest working guys on the team.
Recently, A-State Nation Radio interviewed Girley about his being awarded a scholarship, and the ongoing position battle with Jackson:
I finally was able to lift the walk-on tag off my name, and finally was able to earn a scholarship.
At the end of the day we’re teammates, so whatever I can do to help him, I’m going to do it, and whatever he can do to help me, he’s going to do it.
