Utah State’s home win over P5 weakling Wake Forest was dampened by a knee injury to their star quarterback, Chuckie Keeton. Keeton was held out the 2nd half of the game due to the injury apparently suffered on this play:
Darrell Garretson, a sophomore, quarterbacked the heavily favored Aggies to a 36-24 win over the Demon Deacons. Utah State did not cover the 15 and a half point spread.
Garretson was 6-1 filling in for Keeton last year, which is reminiscent of Adam Kennedy’s 2011 4-1 run in Keeton’s stead. Here is a link to Garretson’s bio.
The Red Wolves face Utah St in Jonesboro next Saturday, September 20th. No official word on whether on not Keeton will play at Arkansas State yet. Here are some excerpts from an article on the game in the Salt Lake Tribune, including quotes from USU head coach Matt Wells:
Keeton came out of the locker room after the half on crutches favoring his surgically repaired left knee and watched sophomore Darell Garretson close out the win.
Wells said following the game he wasn’t sure of Keeton’s prognosis. Keeton was sidelined on the advice of the team doctors, Wells said.
“It’s the same knee, he’s banged up,” Wells said.
