Arkansas State’s 55-17 thrashing of Texas State atoned for the shellacking they took in San Marcos last season and capped an undefeated Sun Belt Conference championship season. Sun Belt season records for interceptions (26) and points scored (492) were set, with the bowl game remaining to add to those records.
Most of the skill players who are seniors managed to score a touchdown – with Gordon, McKissic, and Knighten scoring organically – and Griswold being inserted at wildcat quarterback to run for the final score. The coaching staff got Rocky Hayes the ball on offense, and a few offensive players including Johnston White and JD McKissic wound up on defense at the end of the game. A great day for the seniors who have won more games than any class before them.
