Based on this tweet by Austin, it looks like the NCAA is taking its sweet time in deciding if he’ll get a waiver to boom punts for A-State this year. It took months it seemed for them to decide on AJ Turner’s waiver, so it could be a while before they render a decision.
McGehee signed a national letter of intent with Purdue in February and was part of their 2014 class. He went up to Indiana this summer to participate in workouts and didn’t like it, so he got his release and transferred to A-State. Transferring to another FBS school before you graduate requires sitting out a year without playing in games, unless you get a waiver from the NCAA because of family issues that necessitate transferring closer to home. McGehee is from Pine Bluff.
