One road game against Missouri replaces the Sun Belt game and be the 5th non-conference game.
*Memphis has reportedly inquired about moving this game date to help them with schedule changes required by their move to the Big East. Moving it to November would be great if it allowed for another September home game in Jonesboro.
Update: Middle Tennessee is trying to get out of the Sun Belt immediately and will likely do so, causing only a minor scheduling problem since each Sun Belt school “skipped” a team on an 8 game schedule in a 10 team league. FAU might also try to leave early, and while it isn’t as likely they’ll do so – if they do, this could create a real scheduling mess.
1.16.13 Update – Troy’s AD listed two possible scheduling options if both FAU and MT leave early, leaving the Sun Belt with only 8 Football Schools:
1) Play 7 conference games ( each team once ) and add a 5th non-conference game.
2) Play 8 conference games by having a conference home-and-home like baseball.
Mohajir would prefer to play 7 conference games because he has stated that he has a home and home with an AQ school lined up that would be great for Arkansas State. Rumored to be Baylor or nearby SEC school.
01.18.13 Update: Mohajir said on the radio today that he has a verbal agreement, with contracts in process, for a home and home with a school that will be a big time opponent in Jonesboro in 2014, after playing at their place in 2013. He also said we’d still have six home games in 2013 – which implies our Sun Belt schedule will be 4 home games and 3 away games. The conversation implied that FAU and MT won’t play Sun Belt football in 2013.
